Summer Counselor

Spend your summer working with kids, expanding your knowledge, developing leadership skills, and making lifelong friendships. Sound good then perhaps New Hope Summer Camp Counselor is just what you are looking for ….

The Camp Counselor is responsible for planning, leading, and implementing programs for children in a small group setting. Groups are divided into rising grade and we typically have a maximum of 15 children per group.  Counselors are expected to maintain open, friendly and cooperative relationship with each child and family, greet each child warmly and with enthusiasm each morning, and initiate a goodbye at the end of the day.  Counselors are also responsible for the general health and safety of the participants in his/her group. Camp Counselors report to the Program Director. Counselors must be available for the staff training week June 5th – June 9th 2017.

Counselors must be 18 years or older, have flexibility for scheduling, and are available for the majority of the 9 week sessions. It is expected that counselors have the ability to work both independently and cooperatively with other staff members and to be punctual and prepared. Previous experience as a counselor is preferred but not required.

Lifeguards are expected to maintain open, friendly and cooperative relationships with each child and family. Supervise children at all times in all areas of the pool. Inspect the pool site and equipment daily and alert Director to any potential safety. Vacuum pool liner and empty pool filters daily. Check pool water chemistry daily and adjust accordingly to maintain balanced levels. Assist with cleaning up pool areas and materials to ensure that all items are stored appropriately.

Lifeguards must be 16 years or older, have CPR/First Aid Certification (training is provided by the camp), demonstrate a professional demeanor and  an excellent rapport with all families, work both independently and cooperatively with other staff members and above all to be be punctual and prepared.




Water Safety Instructor (WSI)

This position is a great opportunity to develop leadership skills.

The WSI is responsible for managing the scheduling and performance for all lifeguards during the summer at New Hope Camp and Conference Center swimming pool; training all lifeguards on policy and procedures; following up with pool patrons concerns. In addition the WSI is responsible for swim lessons for rising K-2nd grade campers and for conducting private swim lessons to children of pool patrons.

The WSI must have 3 years of lifeguard experience and preference will be given to individuals who have previously taught swim lessons; volunteered or been employed in a leadership role.

It is expected that the WSI be creative and enthusiastic with children; to be a positive role model; have the ability to communicate with a diverse group of individuals; reliable and punctual.

A WSI must have a current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate or other certificate from a recognized organization.



A counselor-in-training (CIT) is exactly what the title is – training to become a counselor!

Our CIT’s are students aged 16 and 17 years old. (Rising Juniors and Seniors)  During the summer camp season CIT’s will be expected to assist counselors with leadership and guidance of campers in groups, actively participate in all camp activities, and serve as a good role model and example to campers. CIT’s are expected to be patient, friendly, and cooperative; demonstrate maturity and leadership qualities; take initiative and accept direction from counselor staff; have strong communication skill; ability and desire to work with children.
