2007 summer staff!

Have fun, make a difference in the lives of children, and make friends as a summer camp counselor

Spend your summer having fun and making a difference!

New Hope Camp and Conference Center's summer staff is generally made up of area college and graduate students who want to spend their summer getting to know one another and making a difference in the lives of youth. New Hope CCC hosts campers of various faiths and socioeconomic backgrounds in an environment of Christian hospitality. Summer staff work together to create an environment of love and tolerance at New Hope CCC that even the youngest campers pick up on. We hire qualified counselors and lifeguards plus Nature, Bible Study, and Arts and Crafts specialists. We also hire a certified Water Safety Instructor for our summer camp and pool patron swimming lessons. Download an application, fill it out, and send it in to New Hope Camp and Conference Center, Attn: Summer Staff. We will contact you for an interview. All staff must be 18 years of age and starting salary depends on experience.

Job Reference and Character Inquiry Sheet

Summer Job Descriptions

This is not a complete description of the tasks that may be assigned to staff during the summer but a general overview of what each job at camp entails. You may be given further information on the specifics of a particular job during an interview or staff training. Pay Rate is based on experience.

General Counselor

General Counselors (GC’s) spend the entire camp day with the same group of campers. GC’s lead their groups to each activity (arts and crafts, nature, Bible study, swimming, etc.)  A GC acts as the main caretaker for his/her group and acts as an assistant to the specialists at the various activities. General Counselors also take turns taking responsibility for early drop off and late pick up times during the week as well as lunch and rest time duty. General Counselors have some programming opportunity in the areas of sports and games and during the group’s free time. General Counselors get to build close bonds with their groups of campers and end the summer having gained experience with various age groups.

Specialty Counselors

Nature, Arts and Crafts, and Bible Study specialists have responsibility for the main program components of our summer day camp. Our specialty counselors will be provided with a curriculum and many choices of activities. A specialist should have a knowledge base in the area for which they are applying. Prospective staff may apply for more than one position. The specialists will have to coordinate the daily and weekly activities to provide our campers with a quality program. The specialty counselors see almost every camper every day, getting to know each one by the end of the week. Specialty counselors must be able to think on their feet, adapt to various age groups and be creative with the resources they are given.

Lifeguards

We will hire many lifeguards to staff the New Hope Camp and Conference Center Pool. The pool is open seven days a week for summer campers, retreat and user groups, and pool patrons. Certified lifeguards (Red Cross or YMCA certification) will be given preference in the hiring process, but strong swimmers with no certification will be considered and will have an opportunity to certify through New Hope CCC. Those with an expired lifeguard certification may re certify though New Hope CCC. Lifeguards must exhibit a mature and responsible attitude, a respect for pool patrons, and a willingness to share the duties that come along with a clean, successful pool program. Full and part time positions available.

Water Safety Instructor

There is one Water Safety Instructor (WSI) position available. The WSI will give swimming lessons to all campers who are rising Kindergartners through rising 6th graders. The WSI will use other hours of the day/week for pool patron swimming lessons. The WSI will work closely with the other counselors, lifeguards, all campers and many parents. The WSI hired will be a currently certified, mature individual who can positively interact with campers, staff, and parents. Those who are not currently certified may have the opportunity to re certify through NHCCC.

Ranger Counselor

The Ranger program is new this year for New Hope Camp and Conference Center. This is a specialty program for rising 7th–10th graders. The Ranger counselor will plan and program many of the specifics for the group. The Rangers will assist with much of the background of day camp. They will help with dining hall setup and cleanup, water cooler disbursement, leading songs and energizers, helping in the crafts hut, assisting with snack time and much, much more. Rangers will also spend time learning some characteristics of good leaders. The Ranger counselor will need to exhibit good leadership techniques and be able to pass those along to the campers. The counselor must have experience with this age group (rising 7th–10th graders).
