The New Hope Mission
Thank you for helping us to make so many wonderful leaps forward this year at NHCCC. We have had many children attend our Summer Day Camp programs and countless other individuals have come through our gates to attend retreats and rent our facilities for group activities. This year no one knew what to expect with the economy. We planned and hoped for growth, but our day camp numbers matched last year’s and our retreat and rental business is not far behind. We are working to operate as efficiently as possible without curtailing our services. In this economic year, if you do not lose ground, it is an occasion for celebration.
Many great projects have been completed because of the generous gifts we have received. The new shop is complete, equipment is moved in, and the old shop is on the way down. We now have a wonderful place to work and an eyesore is gone. A new roof is on Walnut, Poplar has new paint inside and out, the prayer labyrinth is finished in wonderful fashion, and significant work has been done to the pool. A new sidewalk was added between the Dining Hall and Fleming Lodge, and the camp offered two well attended labyrinth retreats, as well as a very successful middle school retreat. We are definitely on the move in the right direction.
We feel our next step here at New Hope Camp is to bring the Dining Hall kitchen back into service. There are several reasons for this. First, a renovated kitchen is essential to bringing back overnight camp in full force. Overnight camp is a unique experience and builds community for children and, in addition to influencing lifetime values and choices, potentially creates dedicated alumni who may be enthusiastic contributors to the camp well beyond their camping years. Second, we have a number of groups that would use the facilities for retreats and rentals if we could provide full food service. The cost of this important kitchen renovation is around $60,000. We currently have almost $14,500 in hand for this project, which is a good start but we have a long way to go. All monies donated to the annual fund this year will go directly to this very important project.
We ask that you prayerfully consider contributing to the New Hope Camp and Conference Center Annual Fund as 2009 ends, so that we will be closer to our goal of a new kitchen and the expanded services it will make possible. Please know that whatever the size of your donation, it helps more than ever this year.
We greatly appreciate your financial support in the past and look forward to our continued partnership.
